Brf Bergsfallet in Jättesten in Gothenburg, a multi-family building completed in 2022, took an important step towards increased fire safety by installing SpiderFire’s automatic Spider extinguishing units in its energy storage systems. This housing cooperative, with 87 apartments and two commercial spaces, uses renewable energy to reduce its carbon footprint and meet the growing energy demand. When choosing solar panels and batteries as energy sources, the association realized the fire risks these posed.
"All of our 130 residents, including pets, deserve a safe living environment. To maximize safety, we installed SpiderFire's aerosol system in the most critical areas – the technical room and the battery room – where the fire risk is highest and where it is most difficult to detect a fire. The system is activated automatically and quickly extinguishes fires in the most vulnerable areas where safety is crucial. SpiderFire gives us peace of mind," says the association's chairman Hariz Dedic.
Brf Bergsfallet uses solar panels that generate approximately 100,000 kWh of electricity annually. One-third of the property's electricity consumption is covered by solar energy, and the surplus energy is stored in batteries that also participate in Svenska Kraftnät's frequency balancing. The association is environmentally certified at the Silver level and has prepared for temporary self-sufficiency, which allows for 6 to 48 hours of electricity supply during power outages, depending on the season
GBG Brand – a reliable fire safety partner
Fire safety was a top priority for the association's board, and the choice of partner was carefully considered. “GBG Brands (Göteborgs Brand & Säkerhet) impressed us with their expertise, strong commitment, and willingness to collaborate.
The SpiderFire solution was exactly what we needed: simple, maintenance-free, durable, and with excellent extinguishing capabilities,” explains Dedic.
After more than a year of collaboration, Dedic describes GBG Brands’ customer service as first-class: “Everything has been smooth and easy – we have complete trust in them.”
Future-proofing and sustainability
Solar energy is used for the property's general lighting, charging stations for electric vehicles, heating, ventilation, and hot water supply. Additionally, all outdoor tools are battery-powered to promote environmental friendliness.
"We may not be pioneers in the use of solar energy, but when it comes to using SpiderFire technology, we are definitely leading in Sweden," sums up Dedic.
Tommi Holappa, CEO of SpiderFire, is pleased with the collaboration with GBG Brands and the opportunity to combine their expertise to offer smart fire protection and security together.
