💡 Today was an active and insightful day as we networked within the AVM affärsnätverk with Scania Group serving as the host. With sone 59,000 employees worldwide, Scania is a major player in Södertälje kommun and beyond, with its core business focused on manufacturing trucks, buses, and industrial engines. 🚌🛻🚎🚙 The company’s headquarters and visitor center were impressive, showcasing their trucks. It’s clear just how significant Scania has been in shaping Södertälje and the surrounding region, both historically and in the present. It was a privilege to learn from the host David Holmgren about their contributions. Their work on sustainability, as well as the development of self-driving trucks, was truly inspiring. 🔥BESS explosion in private home today– Growing concern for safety and insurance or just bad luck? A BESS linked to a solar installation exploded today in a private house in Schönberg, Germany. I received this information from two colleagues and found it particularly interesting. If incidents like this become more frequent, how will insurers handle the risks? There are clearly many potential failure points, and unfortunately, human error and poor installation can often be the weakest links. Good safety regulations, better installation practices, and deeper risk assessment with this equipment would definitely lower the risks of any incidents. Below is an English translation of the incident (source in the comment section). Updated: 20.02.2025, 19:14 CET Following an explosion in a single-family home in Schönberg, located in the Herzogtum Lauenburg district, the building is likely beyond saving. A malfunction in the battery storage system of the solar installation is suspected to be the cause. The house, situated in Schönberg near Sandesneben, will most likely have to be demolished, according to the fire department. A massive hole gapes in the bright red brickwork, and debris is scattered across the garden. One entire wall of the house was torn away by the explosion. The estimated damage amounts to several hundred thousand euros. Fortunately, according to police reports, no one was injured, as the residents were not at home at the time. Electrical Association: Technical Issues in the Photovoltaic System Initial findings suggest that the explosion was caused by the home's photovoltaic battery storage system. Jan Feddern, the state guild master of the Schleswig-Holstein Electrical Association, suspects that the battery storage system had overcharged due to the sunny weather, failing to feed excess energy into the grid as it normally would. As a result, the battery discharged explosively. At the time of the incident, the homeowners were on vacation. "To my knowledge, this is the first case of such a battery storage explosion in Schleswig-Holstein. While I am aware that lithium-ion technology can technically explode, this only happens due to internal technical failures in the battery itself or issues with the charging regulation." — Jan Feddern, Schleswig-Holstein Electrical Association An expert will now investigate the exact cause of the explosion. Neighbours Alerted Emergency Services The house remains at risk of collapse. According to the police, neighbours called emergency services at around 16:30 on Wednesday after hearing the explosion. Seven fire brigades, the Technical Relief Agency (THW), and several police patrols responded to the scene. This time at the AVM affärsnätverk meet-up, we were pleased to have our invited guests, Kim Z. och Sean Eriksson from Helios El & Solkraft AB, join us. ☀️ During our pitch, we were pleased to share how we’ve combined our expertise to provide fire safety solutions for Helios El & Solkraft AB’ end customers in solar energy storage. 🔋 🔋 Additionally, we introduced our automatic aerosol fire suppression product, "Spider" 🚀 , and shared a case from Gothenburg, where Spider units are in use. A modern housing association with solar energy had installed Spider units to protect their energy storage and technical rooms from potential fires. The customer shared: “Each of our 130 residents, including pets, deserves a safe living environment. 👫🐕 🐈 To maximize safety, we installed the SpiderFire aerosol system in the most critical areas – the technical room and battery room – where the fire risk is highest and hardest to detect. 🔥The system activates automatically and quickly extinguishes fires in these high-risk areas, ensuring the safety that’s essential.
